Who we are
Top Tracks Solo – 6 Degrees (“6 Degrees”) is run by Tastic Games Ltd (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17512365), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions or requests: hello@tasticgames.com.
We collect as little as we can. Anyone can play as a guest. An account (just an email address) is only needed for your one ranked try a day, the leaderboards, streaks and playing with other people.
What we collect
When you play — guests and accounts
- A random guest id — a random number your browser keeps in a cookie, signed by our server, so we can count your free games and rewards fairly. It isn’t linked to your name or email.
- Your games — for each try at the Daily Six, Free play, the Daily Chain or a Free chain: the puzzle, the songs you linked (Apple catalogue songs), when each move was made, how long it took, hints, the extra moves or extra life you used, and the result. Our server checks every link and keeps the clock, so nothing about your device is needed for that.
- Free games and rewards — how many free games you’ve played today, and what happened with a rewarded ad you chose to watch (watched, no ad available, or ad-free), so the limits work.
- Song searches — the words you type to find a song. Our server sends them to Apple’s music search to find matching songs. We don’t store your searches or link them to you (a server may remember recent results, by the words searched, for up to a day while it runs).
With an account (13+)
- Email address — to send your sign-in links. It’s never shown to other players.
- Your 13+ confirmation — that you ticked “I’m 13 or over”, and when.
- Account details — a random account id, your generated name (“Velvet Otter 482”), a name you chose (if you did — it has to pass our word filter), your settings (“Show my country on leaderboards”, off unless you turn it on), whether you have ad-free play (with a plan — see below — or given by us) and whether we have hidden your name after a report.
- Leaderboards, streaks and bests — your ranked results on the Daily Six and Daily Chain boards (name, moves or links, time, and a 💡 or ❤️ mark if you used a hint or extra life), your streak and your personal bests. Your country is only on a board row if you turned on “Show my country”.
- Sign-in sessions — a random token in a cookie that keeps this device signed in (we only store a scrambled copy of it).
Tastic Games plans (ad-free)
Top Tracks sells the Tastic Games plans (the Pass and single-player ad-free) for our games, and keeps the record of what you bought. So that a plan works in each game it covers that you sign in to, our games — Top Tracks, Top Tracks Solo and 6 Degrees, all run by Tastic Games Ltd — share with each other:
- Your account email address — 6 Degrees sends it to Top Tracks to ask whether you have a plan: when you sign in, now and then while you play, when you tap “Restore purchases”, and when you buy or manage a plan. Only the signed-in account’s own email is ever sent, never anyone else’s.
- Your plan — Top Tracks answers (and tells 6 Degrees when it changes) with which plan you have, until when, whether it renews or is cancelled, and whether it can be managed — nothing about your payments or your card. 6 Degrees keeps that answer on your account, with when it last checked.
- Buying a plan here — Stripe’s checkout page takes the payment for Top Tracks, so Top Tracks and Stripe receive your email address. If you don’t have a Top Tracks account yet, one is made for that email address to hold the purchase (it’s never signed in unless you sign in there). Stripe processes the payment (card details go to Stripe only; we never see or store them) under its own terms.
You can delete a Top Tracks account made this way on its account page (toptracks.tasticgames.com/account, signing in with the same email) or by emailing hello@tasticgames.com. Deleting it ends your plans in every game.
Playing with other people (Co-op, Versus, Chain versus)
Only signed-in players who confirmed they’re 13 or over are matched with other people. Guests, and anyone without a 13+ account, play these modes against computer players (“bots”, always marked BOT) only. When you play with people, we use:
- Your match name — always your generated name, never a name you typed and never your email. Other players in the match see it, your songs (in Co-op and Chain versus — in Versus they only see how many moves you’ve made) and the reactions you send.
- The match — who was in it (account ids or guest ids), the songs played, who added each link, the clocks and the result.
- Whether you’re here — when you last asked about the match, so a bot can play for you if you’re away, and so leaving (or being away for more than 2 minutes in a game with people) can earn a short wait before your next game with people (2, 10, 30 minutes, then 2 hours, within a day).
- Ratings and match boards — your Versus and Chain versus ratings (a skill number used to pair you with players near your level), your weekly wins and your Co-op team results, shown on the match boards under your public name (never your teammates’ names). Only matches with two or more ranked people count.
- Reactions — six fixed buttons (“Great link”, “New to me”, “Tune!”, “Good game”, “Unlucky”, “Ha!”). There is no free text. Reactions are passed on straight away and not stored.
- Reports — if you report a player: the reason (from a fixed list), the match and mode, and the songs that player played in it. We store you, the reporter, only as a scrambled code made with a secret key, not your account id. Reports help us keep players safe: reports from 3 different established players (at least 10 rated matches and an account at least 7 days old) in 3 different matches within 30 days make an account practice-only (bots only) for 30 days. Every report is kept for us to look at, whether or not it counts. This restriction is decided automatically, without a person looking first; the player is told, and can ask for a person to review it — and appeal — by emailing hello@tasticgames.com.
- Blocks — who you blocked and when (never names). You’re never matched with someone either of you blocked (unless one of you deletes the account and makes a new one), and you don’t see each other’s reactions. You can unblock on your account page.
- Fair-play checks — two ranked players on the same internet connection are never put in the same match. For that we use a scrambled code made from your network address with a secret key — it can’t be turned back into your address.
- After deleting an account — if the account was practice-only, waiting after leaving, or recently reported, we keep that (and those recent reports, without songs) for up to 30 days under a scrambled code of the email address, so deleting and signing up again can’t be used to get round it.
We never collect or show: chat or messages of any kind (the only thing you type that others see is a display name you choose), profiles, friends lists, photos, contact details or your country on the match boards. Nobody can look a player up or invite them — the game picks who you play.
Other things we collect
- Name reports — anyone can report a name on a leaderboard. We keep the report (the name, the board, and the account or guest id of who reported it) so a person can check it; we can hide a name (“Hidden player”).
- Your country — worked out from your connection by our hosting provider on each visit. We use it to decide whether a guest’s ads must follow stricter children’s rules, and show it on your board rows only if you turned on “Show my country”. We don’t store it otherwise.
- Technical data — your IP address and browser details reach our servers and our hosting provider’s firewall with every request. Our access logs keep, for every request to our game server and the live match connection, the IP address it came from, what was asked for (the page or action, never your search words) and whether it worked, for 1 month. For limits against abuse (too many tries, searches or sign-in emails from one place) and the same-connection rule we use only a scrambled code made from your network with a secret key, which can’t be turned back into your address.
- Ads — when the game shows ads (on screens like the puzzle intro and the result, and rewarded ads you choose to watch), they come from Google. To show an ad, your browser sends Google your IP address, browser details, the page (never a game id) and your consent choice. For guests (not signed in, or not confirmed 13+), and wherever stricter children’s rules apply or we can’t tell your country, we always ask Google for child-directed, non-personalised ads, whatever is chosen in the consent message. Only a signed-in player aged 13 or over who opts in can get personalised ads: they must turn on “Personalised ads” on the account page (off until you do) and, in the UK and EU, agree in Google’s consent message. Players with ad-free play, the sign-in page and these legal pages load nothing from Google at all.
We don’t use analytics or usage-tracking tools, we don’t build advertising profiles and we don’t sell your data.
Why we use it, and our lawful bases
- Running the game, your account, the leaderboards, streaks and matches you ask to play, and sending sign-in emails — performance of a contract (our terms).
- Tastic Games plans — selling them, and sharing your email address and plan between our games so the plan you have works in each — performance of a contract (our terms and Top Tracks’ terms). Keeping payment records — legal obligation.
- Keeping players safe and the game fair — reports, blocks, practice-only restrictions, the wait after leaving, the same-connection rule, the record kept after a deletion, and limits against abuse and cheating — our legitimate interests (and yours) in a safe, fair game, including for younger players.
- Security, preventing fraud and keeping the service working — legitimate interests.
- Ads: advertising cookies and personalised ads — your consent (Google’s consent message in the UK and EU, and the “Personalised ads” switch; withdraw any time with “Privacy settings” in the footer or under an ad, or with the switch); non-personalised, child-directed ads — legitimate interests in paying for a free game.
- Responding to your requests and meeting legal duties (such as online-safety duties) — legal obligation or legitimate interests.
Who we share it with
- Other players — leaderboards are public: they show a board name, the result and (only if you turned it on) your country. Matches and match boards show the display name you chose (players can choose a display name shown to other players — don’t use your real name), or your generated name. Your email is never shown.
- Amazon Web Services — hosts the game: our data is stored in London, UK; pages are delivered worldwide through Amazon’s content network, and its firewall and certificates run in the United States (us-east-1).
- Our other games — Top Tracks and Top Tracks Solo, also run by Tastic Games Ltd: your email address and your plan, if you have a Tastic Games plan (see above). Aggregate daily counts are also shared with Top Tracks to run the service (how many people played, signed up or played as guests, and how many games of each kind) — numbers only, nothing that identifies anyone. This happens directly between our games’ servers, inside Amazon Web Services; no one else is involved.
- Stripe — processes payments for Tastic Games plans, through Top Tracks. Stripe receives your email address and your payment details, under its own privacy policy; we never see your card.
- Postmark (ActiveCampaign) — sends our sign-in emails. It handles your email address and the message in the United States.
- Apple — songs, artwork and 30-second previews come from Apple’s iTunes services. Our server sends Apple the words you search for (not who you are). Your browser loads artwork and previews straight from Apple, so Apple sees your IP address then. Apple’s privacy policy applies.
- Google — when ads are on: shows the ads (Google Ad Manager / AdSense) and runs the consent message. For personalised ads Google acts as a separate controller under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com); child-directed and non-personalised requests are handled under Google’s restricted-processing terms.
- Professional advisers, or the police and other authorities where the law requires.
Where a provider handles data outside the UK (such as Postmark, Google, or Amazon’s network in the United States), we rely on UK adequacy regulations (including the UK–US data bridge where the provider is certified) or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Sign-in links: 15 minutes, and they work once.
- Sign-in sessions: 30 days after you sign in, or until you sign out. Signing in again replaces this device’s earlier session.
- The guest cookie: up to 400 days in your browser, or until you clear cookies.
- Your tries (songs, times, results): 120 days, then deleted automatically. The record that you’ve used today’s ranked try: 30 days.
- Daily Six, Daily Chain and weekly board rows: 400 days. The streak board keeps each player’s best streak with no end date; after the account is deleted the row stays as “Deleted player”.
- Your streak and personal bests: until you delete your account.
- Counters for limits (free games, rewards, sign-in emails, today’s plays): up to 3 days.
- Name reports: 90 days.
- Matches: the match itself, whether you’re here and the connection records — up to 1 day (connection records up to 3 hours); a record that each result was counted — 30 days.
- Ratings: until you delete your account. Rating board rows (all-time and weekly): 400 days from your last rated match there.
- Blocks: until you unblock, or either account is deleted.
- Your plan as 6 Degrees knows it (which plan, until when, when it was last checked): until you delete your account. Top Tracks keeps its payment records for 6 years, as the law requires.
- Player reports: 1 year. A practice-only restriction: 30 days from the last report that counted, or until we lift it. Waits after leaving: 24 hours.
- Reactions: not stored.
- Access logs (IP address, what was asked for, whether it worked) and error logs: 1 month. Backups of our database: up to 35 days.
- Your ad consent choice and the “Personalised ads” switch: in your browser until you change them or clear site data. Google’s own ad cookies: as set by Google (up to 13 months).
- Your account: until you delete it — see below.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself on the account page. We then delete straight away your email address, your account and settings, your sign-in sessions on every device, your streak and personal bests, your ratings and all-time rating board rows, what 6 Degrees knows about your plan, your blocks (both ways), any restriction or wait (except what’s kept for up to 30 days to stop people getting round it — see above), and player reports about you from matches; match reports you made no longer point to you. You’re removed from every match you were in (shown as “Deleted player”). Name reports (about you, or made by you) aren’t deleted at once — they’re deleted automatically within 90 days.
Your rows on the Daily Six, Daily Chain, weekly and streak boards stay, because they’re part of other players’ ranks, but they say “Deleted player” with no country. Your past tries aren’t linked to your email any more and are deleted automatically within 120 days (the record of a ranked try within 30 days). Deleted data can stay in our backups for up to 35 days.
Deleting your 6 Degrees account doesn’t cancel a Tastic Games plan, because it covers our other games too: cancel it in “Manage plan” first if you want it to stop. Your purchase records stay with Top Tracks.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. You can change your leaderboard name, turn “Show my country” and “Personalised ads” on or off, and unblock players on the account page. For anything else, email hello@tasticgames.com — we reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we use your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.
Children and young people
Anyone can play as a guest — the Daily Six, Free play, the chain games, and Co-op, Versus and Chain versus against bots. Guests are never on a leaderboard and never play other people. If you’re under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before you play.
Accounts are for people aged 13 or over — we ask you to confirm this when you sign up. Only 13+ accounts are matched with other people.
High-privacy settings are on for everyone by default: no chat or messages, generated names unless you choose one, your country hidden, no advertising profiles, no personalised ads unless a 13+ player turns them on, and a word filter on the names people choose. If you think a child under 13 has made an account, email hello@tasticgames.com and we’ll delete it.
In plain words: we only keep what the game needs. Other players can see your game name and your songs — never your email. Nobody can message you. If someone is unkind or plays unfairly, tap Report or Block, and tell a grown-up you trust. You can delete your account whenever you like.
Cookies and device storage
We only use what’s needed to run the game and, when ads are on, Google’s advertising cookies (with your consent where the law requires it) — see our Cookie notice.
Changes
We’ll update this notice when things change and show the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted in the game. See also our Terms of use.
